"Historically, though, larger employers have typically spent only about half of what they’ve set aside for tuition reimbursement — even as 80 percent to 85 percent of workers say they want to use the benefits. Only about 35 percent of customer-facing retail workers report being offered educational supports at all, Ash said. Often those come as promises that tuition payments will be reimbursed at the end of a semester or course. For workers who don’t have cash or credit, or who worry about debt, it’s a nonstarter."
